Putting nature connection on the map

The UK is one of the least nature-connected nations in the world but there is a growing movement to change this. The University of Derby's Nature Connectedness Research Group has pioneered the science of human-nature relationships since 2013 and with WFET's support launched the Nature Connectedness Network to help practitioners everywhere put that insight to work.

University of Derby

Globally, nature connectedness – people’s emotional and psychological relationship with the natural world – is recognised as vital for our wellbeing, and an inspiration for environmental action.

And yet the UK is one of the least Nature Connected nations.

Since 2013, the University of Derby’s Nature Connectedness Research Group has pioneered research into nature connection and the human-nature relationship. In 2023, with WFET support, they launched the Nature Connectedness Network (NCN) in partnership with Natural England. The NCN is free to join and open to all working to enhancing people’s relationships with nature.

Join the network here, alongside practitioners from all sectors who’re using Nature Connection insights to accelerate their work.
